Real Madrid – La Liga Came off the bench to equalise against Real Sociedad
Vinicius Junior would have expected a better gift from Zinedine Zidane ahead of his 100th game for Real Madrid, but the Frenchman didn’t start him against Real Sociedad.
However, the Brazilian came off the bench, with the Basque side 1-0 up with just a minute to be played, and netted an equaliser to help Los Blancos avoid a home defeat.
Zidane decided to start Isco over Vinicius on Monday alongside Marco Asensio and Mariano Diaz in attack. Yet, none of them managed to pay back their coach’s confidence and the Frenchman made a triple change to send on Vinicius, Rodrygo Goes and Hugo Duro.
Despite playing in his natural position on the left flank, the Brazilian forward couldn’t find any space to exploit due to Real Sociedad‘s compact defence. However, late in the match he connected with a Lucas Vazquez cross to score his 12th goal in 100 games for Los Blancos.
Vinicius did not expected to be dropped to the bench for the game with Real Sociedad after starting in three matches in a row. But despite his disappointment, he took to the pitch to snatch a point for Real Madrid.
“We are sad at not having achieved the victory we needed,” Vinicius said after the match.
“We won five games and we failed to do the same in the last one before the derby.
I’m proud to play 100 games wearing this shirt. I have spoken with my family today. I went out and accepted responsibility for this shirt that we love so much.”
