Real Madrid Guido Albers spoke on a podcast
Donny Van de Beek was one of the most wanted players for Real Madrid last year and it seemed that he would move to the Spanish club, before the dutchman ended up at Manchester United.
Even the player’s agent Guido Albers has made it known just how close Van de Beek was to becoming a Galactico.
“Last year, we had already worked towards a move to Real Madrid, but Ajax were against it after the departures of Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt,” he told a Dutch podcast.
“He ultimately stayed, but everything was arranged and in place last year.”
The player’s agent also confirmed that Real Madrid representatives had travelled to Amsterdam to talk to both Edwin Van der Sar and Marc Overmars.
“At this meeting we shook hands and we agreed to keep it quiet for a while until he passed his medical,” the agent revealed.
“This summer he would have arrived at Real Madrid.”
However, partly because of the COVID-19 pandemic, everything changed and the Dutch superstar ended up becoming a Manchester United player instead.
