FC Barcelona – La Liga Wanted to turn Barcelona into Silicon Valley of sports research
Back in 2018, then-Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu boasted during a conference at Harvard University that attendees were surprised that the Blaugrana wanted to share their knowledge with other clubs and organisations.
During a round of lectures on sport, Bartomeu unveiled his plan to turn Barcelona into the Silicon Valley of sports research.
“Barcelona has to be the accelerator of knowledge”, Bartomeu told the conference.
“At Harvard the attendees were very surprised that we want to share our knowledge.
“Just as VAR is being seen to be an element that helps the referees, FFP must also do it to make it a fairer competition.
“[The main] research work on sport is done in Barcelona and for this reason, we will push for that to happen.”
Bartomeu didn’t manage to achieve his objective and a couple of years later resigned from the club, before being arrested on Monday for allegedly being involved in the Barcagate scandal.
