Real Madrid – La Liga All seems fine after his injury scare
Real Madrid need to bounce back quickly from their disappointing defeat at home to Cadiz on Saturday evening as they return to Champions League action on Wednesday night.
Nobody knows that more than captain Sergio Ramos who, despite having to be taken off at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano, looks as though he will be ready to play against Shakhtar Donetsk.
The defender trained without any problems on Monday morning at Valdebebas and there is optimism that after another session on Tuesday, he will be ready to go on Wednesday.
Ramos picked up a knock in the first half but tests have revealed that the discomfort he suffered was merely a product of the blow he took and that there are no serious injury concerns.
Real Madrid know how important Wednesday’s game is. They want to hit the ground running in Europe this season with a winning start. Los Blancos expect the group to be keenly contested, and they’re eyeing a first-place finish to secure, on paper at least, a better draw in the round of 16 than they would have as runners up.
They started with a defeat in Paris last season and ended up finishing second in the group, only to meet Manchester City in the first knockout round, where they were eliminated.
Ramos missed out on that game at the Parc des Princes last season, which ended in a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. The captain was unavailable as he was still serving a ban after being sent off against Ajax during the 2018/19 campaign.
The defender also missed the second leg against Juventus when Madrid played out a chaotic 3-3 draw at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and almost got knocked out of the competition.
