Real Madrid UEFA Youth League semi-final at 18:00 on Saturday
The seventh edition of the UEFA Youth League is heading into its final phase in Nyon, with Real Madrid taking on Red Bull Salzburg in the semi-finals on Saturday evening.
Los Blancos, despite their incredible successes in the Champions League of late, are yet to get their name on the underage trophy, trailing Barcelona and Chelsea‘s two titles each, with Porto and Salzburg themselves having one apiece.
In the other semi-final, Ajax take on Benfica as two of Europe’s other heavyweights go in search of their first success in the competition.
The semi-finals have proven a bridge too far for Real Madrid in recent years, though they have reached the final four on more occasions than anyone else in the Youth League with four semi-final appearances.
Luis Miguel Ramis led the side to this stage in 2014, where they lost to Benfica.
Santiago Solari did the same two years later only to lose 3-1 to Paris Saint-Germain, while Guti led them to a 4-2 defeat against a Benfica side inspired by Joao Felix in 2017.
This year, though, those at Valdebebas are confident that this could be their year.
They’ve already beaten Juventus (3-1) and Inter (3-0) en route to the semi-finals.
